I finally got to a Lowe’s that would custom cut some mirror for my bar. Luckily I got two pieces cut exactly the same, since I broke the first while testing the bar top.
After getting the mirror cut came the oh so not fun job of getting the interior shelf installed. Since I cut it way too tight, getting the shelf inside the frame was quite the task. It took quite a bit of banging, shoving, leveling, and then finally installing the new frame that holds the shelf. Screwing into 60 year old wood was scary at times, I was certain it would crack, but it held up well. I did get it leveled and at the lowest point I could without interfering with the speaker below.
Unfortunately once I got the shelf all set to go, I now have a problem with the felt. While installing I did some damage to the current lining. Right now it’s a pretty bright red felt, that seems a little thin. So to fix the damage I have two options
1. Cover current felt with a thicker blue felt. It is a darker color, and also seems a little more durable.
2. Use the extra fabric of what I currently have installed. Might be easier, and I won’t have to worry about edges too much.
Finally, finding a hinge for the new lid has been quite a task. I was going to go with a cheap and easy option of using a plain small hinge. Problem would be the lid could basically flop open. It could hit a wall, slowly get damaged, and just look bad. So I did some research, bought two that didn’t work, and finally went online to ask for some help from Facebook groups. Instead I got a copy of the exact hinge used on the main lid! And the guy is only making me pay shipping, this will be the coolest part by far.
I will be working on the speaker covers next while I wait for the hinge, and will get those pics up soon!
